Q. Will my neighbors complain about the smell/noise/etc.?
A. This is something that must be addressed individually, but it's good to know the ordinances for your area and be absolutely clear you follow the letter of the law- you will have a stronger stance if complaints come. If you share with your neighbors your intent in advance, don't ask permission, as it gives them an opportunity to say, "No!" Rather, give them a friendly 'head's up' and share with them your plans to address the common concerns folks have regarding backyard flocks. If you are armed with ready answers and show you're interested in your their comfort, most neighbors will quickly anticipate chicken-watching and free-range eggs. Be sure to share!
